#002 End Your Day Right: My Simple Evening Routine for Better Sleep and Focus

How you end your day sets the tone for tomorrow. A solid evening routine helps me wind down, clear my mind, and prepare for a productive morning. In this week’s newsletter, I’ll share my simple, actionable evening routine that helps me sleep better and start the next day on the right foot.

What I’m Going to Teach You

  • My 3-step evening routine for relaxation and preparation.

  • How to create a calming environment for better sleep.

  • The one thing I do every night to set up a productive morning.

Why It Matters to You

If you’ve ever felt restless at night or struggled to start your mornings productively, your evening routine might need some attention. A consistent wind-down process can help you sleep better, reduce stress, and start each day with clarity and purpose.

Why Most People Fail

Most people think an evening routine has to be elaborate or time-consuming, so they skip it altogether. Others stay glued to their screens until bedtime, disrupting their sleep and leaving their minds racing.

My System (3-Step Evening Routine)

  1. Power Down: Disconnect to Recharge

    • One hour before bed, I turn off all screens—no phone, no laptop, no TV.

    • Instead, I read a book, journal, or meditate to signal my brain that it’s time to wind down.

    • Pro Tip: Set an alarm or reminder to start your power-down time.

  2. Set the Stage: Create a Calming Environment

    • Dim the lights and play calming music or white noise.

    • Adjust the temperature in my bedroom to a cool, comfortable level.

    • Bonus: Use aromatherapy (like lavender) to relax further.

  3. Prepare for Tomorrow: The 5-Minute Planner

    • Review my to-do list and schedule for the next day.

    • Identify the top 1-3 priorities I want to focus on.

    • Lay out any essentials (e.g., workout clothes, notebook) to minimize morning friction.

Takeaways

  • Disconnecting from screens before bed can drastically improve sleep quality.

  • A calming environment makes it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

  • Spending just 5 minutes planning for the next day can supercharge your mornings.

My Challenge to You

Try this evening routine for the next 5 nights. Start by turning off your screens an hour before bed and replacing that time with reading or journaling. Let me know how it improves your sleep and mornings!
